Enhancing A Community Hub: The Impact of Soofa Signs at the Revere Public Library
Revere Public Library, in the heart of Revere, Massachusetts, serves as a community hotspot for local events, information, and connection. Staff are currently working hard to not only transform the inside appearance of the building, but also how they engage with locals and visitors. They recently installed a Soofa Sign outside the library, and are already seeing positive results. We spoke to Diana Luongo, Director, and Krystee Maniscalco, Young Adult and Community Outreach Librarian to learn what Soofa Sign features they’re utilizing most.
A Hub of Activity
Revere Library is located near a playground, a school, and by the city’s downtown, making it an ideal location for a communication platform like Soofa Signs. The library often sees high foot traffic from students, families, and others, but until recently, they needed a better way to efficiently communicate with so many potential visitors. With their Soofa Sign, library staff can easily share information about programs and business hours all on one platform.
“Our library was overlooked for a long time, and now we’re more on the map. We have a ton of foot traffic, so it’s definitely beneficial for us to have something outside the building to highlight our events and other information,” said Maniscalco.
Community Engagement at Its Best
Not only has the library’s Soofa Sign sparked the curiosity of passersby, it also caught the attention of local media. WBZ Radio reached out to the library after one of its reporters noticed the sign while walking by. The interview, which aired on AM radio, gave the library a boost in visibility and helped spread the word about the exciting changes happening at this community hub.
Luongo and Maniscalco mentioned that they have utilized Soofa’s poster widget to quickly share library closure updates with the public, and fun poll questions to increase engagement. A current poll, for example, asks residents about their favorite things to do in Revere, encouraging more participation and creating a fun way to involve locals.
Future Programming
Revere Library’s decision to adopt Soofa Signs was driven by a need to better engage the community and highlight the array of services they offer. As the staff puts it, the library is the heart of the community—a “hub of the city” where residents can come for resources, information, and a welcoming environment. With a population of 62,000, Revere is a diverse city, and the library serves as a vital space for everyone from children and teens to people learning English.
“We have an amazing staff. It’s like a family here. You can really see our passion for the team in our work because we all want to make the library better,” said Luongo.
The library continues to expand its programs, especially for adults, thanks to a newly hired adult services librarian. Their Soofa Sign plays a key role in promoting these programs to the public. “We’re trying to get every age group’s attention,” said Luongo. “So it’s definitely a good added feature for outreach.”
While it’s still in its early days, staff are already seeing benefits of their Soofa Sign in raising awareness and helping to draw in new visitors. As word spreads and the library continues to grow its offerings, their Soofa Sign will support them in ensuring they stay at the center of community’s life, while offering valuable resources and creating a welcoming space for all.
