Great Scott rock club is a Boston institution of 44 years, located in Boston’s young and creative Allston neighborhood.

The venue temporarily closed in March when the city enacted stay-at-home orders. A couple months later, management announced that Great Scott would be unable to reopen, inspiring over 25,000 people to sign a change.org petition and raise over $32,000 in funds with a GoFundMe campaign. The community was loud–and longtime booking agency Carl Lavin heard them.

Lavin teamed up with Mainvest with a plan to raise the funding that would re-open Great Scott and keep it open.

Mainvest is a Salem-based startup that helps people easily invest in local businesses through their platform. Small businesses share a percentage of revenue with investors until they can repay the financing plus a return, allowing them to grow their operations while inviting community members to have a financial stake in the businesses they care about.

Mainvest is sharing the news with Soofa Signs in Allston and surrounding neighborhoods to reach people who love Great Scott.

With Soofa, they can have a boots-on-the-ground presence to raise awareness for the campaign, in a time when a typical grassroots marketing strategy isn’t possible.

“We know that people in Allston are so passionate about keeping Great Scott in their community. As people begin to emerge from quarantine, we wanted to meet them right in the community where they are.”

- Isabel Strobing, Community Manager, Mainvest
